2027: Plateau board warns politicians against pasting posters on public property

The Jos Metropolitan Development Board has cautioned politicians in Plateau State from placing campaign posters on public facilities before the 2027 general elections. General Manager Hart Bankat announced the warning in a statement released on Saturday. The directive aligns with Executive Order 003 of 2024, which governs buildings and traffic in the state.

Bankat emphasized that offenders will face legal consequences, including a fine of N500,000 as stated in the executive order. The board's warning stems from its responsibility for overseeing physical development, outdoor advertising, and the appropriate use of public spaces. According to Bankat, political posters, banners, and other campaign materials are prohibited from being pasted, mounted, or displayed on public buildings, bridges, road infrastructure, and other authorized locations.

This is done to maintain the city of Jos's aesthetics, safeguard public infrastructure, and ensure public safety during campaigns before the upcoming general elections. Bankat urged political parties, candidates, campaign organizations, and advertising firms to seek prior approval before erecting or displaying any outdoor campaign materials.
