Yankees slugger Aaron Judge to miss most or all of rest of regular season with a right calf strain

Aaron Judge is returning to the injured list with a right calf strain, according to the New York Daily News. The Yankees' captain was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday after suffering the injury during a loss to the Twins on Wednesday. Utilityman Max Schuemann will replace Judge, sources tell the news outlet. Judge first noticed the strain while playing on the field in the first inning, but did not leave the game until pinch hitter Heliot Ramos took over in the sixth.

Judge's injury was not immediately apparent to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who only noticed the hobbled stride during the fifth inning. Judge stated that he made the decision to come out of the game to avoid potentially hurting the team's chances of winning. This injury comes just seven games after Judge returned from a 99-day absence due to a stress fracture in his first right rib from May 31 to September 7.

Judge, who has been performing at a subpar level since returning from the rib injury, said the new calf strain is similar to the minor injuries he often experiences during the early stages of the season.
