Willson Contreras leaves the Red Sox’s game at Texas after being hit by a pitch

Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras exited his team's game against the Texas Rangers on Thursday night in the eighth inning following a hit-by-pitch incident. The unfortunate incident occurred when Contreras was struck by a first-pitch sinker from Texas' Jakob Junis, who was pitching to Wilyer Abreu. Abreu had previously drawn a leadoff walk, putting the Rangers in a 3-1 lead.

Contreras, visibly in pain after the collision, was examined by a team trainer before being escorted to the dugout. He had stepped up to the plate with a .333 batting average, currently standing at 1 for 3 with a single. Contreras' absence was soon replaced by Trevor Story, who responded with a three-run home run off Texas' Jacob Latz.
