Analysts have weighed in on President Bola Tinubu's options regarding the growing divide between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and All Progressives Congress (APC) governors ahead of the 2027 elections. Kano-based political commentator Comrade Kabiru Sani Mai Kwanuka argued that Wike has made a significant contribution to Tinubu's political fortunes and should not be treated as less important than APC governors.
Mai Kwanuka pointed to Wike's role in weakening the PDP and his ability to mobilize support across political boundaries, citing his influence in Rivers State. Dr. Kabiru Said Sufi, another Kano political scientist, believed President Tinubu might avoid taking sides in the disagreement and maintain cordial relations with both camps.
He suggested that Tinubu might want to rely on independent mobilization efforts from politicians outside the party for the presidential contest. The disagreement between Wike and the APC governors has intensified, with the former rejecting political arrangements that could undermine the party, while the latter opposes any support that could weaken the APC or its candidates in the 2027 elections.
