Umno to launch fund to help Najib settle RM50mil fine

The United Malays National Organisation (Umno) plans to establish a fund to assist former Prime Minister Najib Razak in paying a RM50 million fine imposed on him. This decision comes after the conditional pardon granted to Najib, allowing him to complete his remaining prison sentence under house arrest instead of serving it in a jail cell.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi welcomed the development, describing it as meaningful to Najib and his family, as well as to other Umno members who had hoped and prayed for him. The fund will be managed transparently and in compliance with all relevant rules and laws, and Umno members are encouraged to contribute voluntarily. The legal affairs division of the Prime Minister’s Department announced that Najib was granted the conditional pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim during the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board (FTPB).

Najib, who is 73 years old, has been serving a reduced six-year sentence at Kajang prison since February 2024 when his original 12-year sentence was halved by the FTPB.
