Udhayanidhi welcomes T.N.’s decision on Navodaya schools, seeks special Assembly session to reiterate State’s stand

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the Tamil Nadu Opposition, expressed his approval of the state government's decision to maintain the existing two-language policy and refrain from permitting Navodaya schools in Tamil Nadu. The opposition leader urged the government to continue presenting compelling arguments in the ongoing case at the Supreme Court to support Tamil Nadu's position on the establishment of Navodaya schools.

He also proposed convening a special session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly if necessary to pass a resolution reaffirming the state's stance on this issue.

Udhayanidhi emphasized that the State had no issue with any language, including Hindi. He argued that allowing each State to determine its language policy would further strengthen India's unity. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu has successfully demonstrated patriotism and unity during various national crises, such as the Indo-China War, Bangladesh Liberation War, Kargil War, and Gujarat earthquake. He firmly stated that merely opposing the imposition of Hindi does not mean Tamil Nadu seeks to function as a separate country.

Moreover, Udhayanidhi highlighted that the state, which follows the two-language policy, is a leader in India across various sectors, including higher education enrolment and women's workforce participation. He cited examples of Tamil Nadu's achievements, such as producing Nobel laureates and leading scientists at ISRO, without the need to know Hindi.

The leader further emphasized that Tamil Nadu has not faced any setbacks due to its people's limited Hindi proficiency. Instead, the state has experienced better development and serves as a growth engine for India.
