They’re not playing our song! Wrong Korean anthem played at field hockey match at Asian Games

Nagoya, Japan - On Friday, South Korea's men's and women's field hockey teams both secured victory in their respective opening matches of the Asian Games. The men's team emerged triumphant against Bangladesh with a scoreline of 5-0, setting the tone for their performance in Pool A at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, located approximately 30 kilometers north of Nagoya.

The men's team showcased their attacking prowess by scoring goals from Sim Jae-won, Lee Gang-san, Oh Se-yong, Bae Soung-min, and Yang Ji-hun, with the latter four contributing a goal each. South Korea captain Min Tae-seok acknowledged the challenge posed by Bangladesh, stating that the team aimed to establish a solid defensive stance during the first quarter before becoming more aggressive in subsequent quarters. Following a review of their strategy, the players capitalized on their adjustments to the venue.

Prior to the men's match, the North Korean anthem was played instead of South Korea's national anthem. However, upon the match's commencement, the match organizers played Bangladesh's anthem before transitioning to South Korea's anthem. A delay in the match's start prompted the referee to request both South Korea and Bangladesh players to shake hands with one another and initiate the proceedings.
