Absconding accused in Sai Krishna alleged custodial death case surrenders before SIT

Suresh, an accused in the custodial death case of Gade Sai Krishna, has surrendered to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) after being on the run for several months. Sai Krishna, who is 25, went missing after his alleged detention by the Krishnalanka police on May 9. His mother filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, claiming that her son had been tortured to death and that the police had disposed of his body.

Suresh is accused number four in the case and is a close associate of the suspended Krishnalanka Circle Inspector, S.S.V.V. Nagaraju. The SIT had earlier arrested Nagaraju, four constables, and a home guard from the Krishnalanka police station, as well as launched a search for Suresh. During questioning, two of the accused admitted to selling their mobile phones in Nagpur.

The SIT informed a magistrate's court that police station staff had destroyed evidence, including deleting CCTV footage and digital records. Nagaraju was separately charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and for incitement to suicide after Perupogu Kranthi Kumar, a resident of Vijayawada, took his own life on May 21 after recording a video alleging harassment by Nagaraju and his staff.
