Tell us full conditions for Najib’s house arrest, says Rafizi

Bersatu leader Rafizi Ramli has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Pakatan Harapan leadership to reveal the complete conditions surrounding former Prime Minister Najib Razak's house arrest. This disclosure is essential to ensure the public understands the constraints imposed on Najib, according to Rafizi. The conditional pardon granted to Najib by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, permits him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, contingent upon the payment of a RM50 million fine and adherence to other unspecified conditions.

The legal affairs division of the Prime Minister's Department stated that Najib must comply with all the conditions set, or the conditional pardon could be revoked, without offering details on these conditions. Rafizi acknowledged that public reactions to the conditional pardon would be diverse, ranging from anger to disappointment and happiness.

He emphasized that Anwar and the PH leadership from PKR, DAP, and Amanah bear the duty to explain the conditions, rather than responding with statements that house arrest is beyond their control. Rafizi insisted that this issue transcends politics and is tied to the 1MDB scandal, which has influenced some Malaysians to support the coalition in the 2018 general election.

He stressed the importance of explaining the house arrest conditions to the public, even if it is merely to ease the concerns of those disappointed by the decision. Rafizi also recommended that the house arrest process be conducted quietly to avert further public stir.
