S'pore woman alleges funeral provider handed over father's body in pee-stained clothes after she changed providers

A Singaporean woman has accused a funeral provider, Harmony Funeral Care (HFC), of handing her father's body over to a different provider after he was found wearing urine-stained clothes. The incident occurred after the woman, surnamed Low, canceled HFC's services following news of a 2019 incident where an employee mistakenly took the wrong body to cremate. Upon learning of HFC's past error, Low terminated their contract and hired another funeral service provider.

When HFC initially collected her father's body, he was wearing a urine bag, which the provider assured Low could be properly managed. She was then told her father had been changed into new clothing. About 10 hours later, at around 1pm or 2pm, the new funeral provider took over and handed her father to her. The photographs taken during the handover showed that his clothes were stained with urine, which Low believed was due to improper handling during the change. HFC later offered to clean and dress her father in fresh clothing, which offered her some comfort.

HFC also admitted to retaining the S$800 deposit she had paid for the service. Low expressed deep disappointment, stating that her father was more than just a body or a booking - he was her father. She highlighted the need for transparency and compassion, emphasizing the trust families place in funeral service providers during their most vulnerable times.
