Pakatan Harapan (PH) has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption, expressing strong support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's stance and advice from Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar and Deputy Transport Minister Hannah Yeoh regarding the case of former Prime Minister Najib Razak. The Presidential Council of PH, comprising leaders from component parties, emphasized that no one can flout the law and that anyone accused of wrongdoing must serve their sentence as per the law and the Constitution.
Earlier today, the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) announced that Najib has been granted conditional pardon and allowed to serve the remaining six years of his prison sentence in his home, provided he fully pays a RM50 million fine. In a follow-up statement from today's Presidential Council meeting, the coalition leadership stated that they aim to continue fighting corruption, pushing for reform, and cleansing the country of corruption elements and nepotism.
Separately, Barisan Nasional (BN) welcomed the decision by the Commission for Administrative Justice (CAJ) and expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, for chairing the meeting. BN praised the request process conducted through the appropriate channels, respecting the Agong, Rulers of the Malay States, the Constitution, and legal procedures.
The senior official said the application process was carried out regularly, demonstrating respect for the Agong, Malay rulers, the Constitution, and legal principles. BN pledged to continue supporting the principles of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, parliamentary democracy, and the rule of law. The conditional pardon granted to Najib will allow him to serve the remaining portion of his prison sentence for SRC International case under home confinement until August 23, 2028.
The CAJ explained that the Agong granted Najib a conditional pardon following the meeting of the CAJ, which included the Attorney-General, the Deputy Minister of Welfare, and three individuals appointed by the Agong. Najib, 73, is currently serving a six-year prison sentence at Kajang Jail after his initial 12-year sentence was reduced by half in February 2024.
The original fine amounted to RM210 million, which has been reduced to RM50 million. He was arrested in August 2022 after the Federal Court dismissed his final appeal in the case. In December 2025, Najib will be charged with corruption, misuse of power, and money laundering involving more than RM2 billion related to the 1MDB scandal.
He faces a 15-year prison sentence and a RM11.38 billion fine, and is currently appealing the sentence.
