S. Korean men, women win 1st games in field hockey

NAGOYA, Japan — On Friday, South Korea's men's and women's field hockey teams achieved their first victories at the Asian Games. The men's squad defeated Bangladesh 5-0 in the opening match at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, located approximately 30 kilometers north of Nagoya.

South Korean goals were scored by Sim Jae-won, Lee Gang-san, Oh Se-yong, Bae Soung-min, and Yang Ji-hun. Head coach Min Tae-seok expressed confidence in his team's defensive strategy during the initial quarter, followed by a more aggressive approach in the subsequent quarters.

Prior to the men's match, the North Korean anthem played instead of South Korea's national anthem. This was followed by Bangladesh's anthem, before the South Korean anthem was played. However, the match faced delays, leading the referee to order the players from both teams to shake hands and commence their competition.
