Reduction in fuel export volumes not due to imminent shortage in Ghana - BOSTenergies

BOSTenergies Limited has clarified that the recent decrease in fuel exports to Burkina Faso and Mali is not due to an imminent fuel shortage in Ghana. This clarification follows a Reuters report that quoted BOSTenergies Managing Director Afetsi Awono saying the company was adjusting its export business to ensure sufficient supply for Ghana.

However, BOSTenergies issued a statement on Thursday, September 17, 2026, asserting that the report gave a misleading impression of an impending fuel shortage in Ghana and the subsequent rationing of supplies to its regional partners.

The company emphasized that there is no imminent fuel shortage in Ghana and no supply cuts have been implemented. The reduction in exports to Burkina Faso and Mali is largely attributed to the ongoing renovation of its northernmost depot in Bolgatanga, which serves as the company's gateway into the Sahelian market. BOSTenergies stated that no political, security, or diplomatic factors played a role in this decision.

Under normal circumstances, the company uses a network of pipelines and barges to transport fuel exports from southern Ghana to the north, allowing it to maintain competitive prices and meet profit margins. The rehabilitation of the Bolgatanga depot is almost complete, and despite ongoing works, BOSTenergies has continued to support regional fuel supply. Currently, fuel products are being transported via Bulk Road Vehicles from the company's coastal depot in Tema, ensuring equitable access across demand zones in Ghana.

BOSTenergies reiterated its commitment to supporting regional fuel security through reliable and commercially sound supply arrangements. The company is working closely with government and regulatory authorities to expedite the completion of the Bolgatanga depot renovation and will continue to engage the media and the public transparently on developments affecting Ghana's downstream petroleum sector.
