Press swarm Kajang Prison and Langgak Duta after Najib’s pardon news

After the Federal Territories Rehabilitation and Compensation Committee (LPWP) confirmed that former Prime Minister Najib Razak had been granted conditional pardon to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home, Penjara Kajang once again became the center of media attention. The court allowed Najib to serve the remaining six-year sentence in Penjara Kajang, following a reduction of half of his original 15-year sentence by the Federal Court in February 2024.

The original fine of RM210 million was also reduced to RM50 million. Najib was imprisoned in August 2022, following the rejection of his last appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. In December 2025, he was charged with abuse of power and misappropriation of assets involving over RM2 billion, linked to the 1MDB scandal. He faces 15 years in prison and a RM11.38 billion fine.

Najib is currently appealing this punishment. The legal advisor of the Prime Minister's office stated that the home confinement for Najib is subject to payment of the RM50 million fine, and if he fails to adhere to this condition, the conditional pardon will be revoked and the remaining sentence will continue in prison.
