Police manpower rejig brings back 376 personnel, saves Telangana government ₹90 crore

The Telangana Police has reinstated 376 personnel and reclaimed around ₹90 crore through a manpower audit and restructuring exercise, according to Director General of Police C.V. Anand. These personnel were previously employed with retired officers and have been returned to the available workforce. Additionally, the exercise freed up 20 bullet-proof vehicles, seven Fortuners, 18 Innova Crystas, and 58 other four-wheelers.

The department also removed the 60% additional salary being paid to 573 personnel of the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS wings, which is estimated to save ₹28.16 crore. Restructuring measures across various units, such as Greyhounds and the Special Intelligence Branch, have made personnel available for redeployment based on operational needs.

The DGP reviewed several issues, including Home Guards shortage, IPS officer recruitment, new IPS officers’ association elections, community-connect programs, and administrative matters. The Southern Regional DGPs’ Conference, to be hosted by Telangana Police in October, was also discussed. The upcoming 'Fit Cop' program will provide basic health screening and address thyroid disorders, diabetes, nutrition, and dietary habits among police personnel.

The DGP announced plans to honor police personnel who died in the line of duty ahead of Police Commemoration Day and proposed week-long commemorative programs, including blood donation camps and awareness sessions on cybercrime, drug abuse, and child safety.
