PH Presidential Council meeting ends after nearly two hours

The Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council meeting concluded after approximately two hours on Tuesday, amidst significant political activities concerning Barisan Nasional's role in the Unity Government. Confirmation of several multipurpose vehicles departing the Perdana Putra complex was made by The New Straits Times at 7:30 pm, although the media found it challenging to identify the PH leaders in these vehicles.

The meeting, chaired by Anwar Ibrahim, began around 5:30 pm. This session occurred amid heightened political focus following Najib Razak's conditional pardon, allowing him to finish his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028. This decision has stirred political discourse within Umno, potentially reigniting the "Bossku" sentiment among the party's grassroots and increasing pressure on Umno to voice its concerns more openly.

The PH session also follows BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's remarks at last week's Umno General Assembly. Zahid challenged those advocating for the party to terminate its collaboration with the Unity Government, suggesting they should either call for Parliament's dissolution to prepare for the 16th General Election (GE16) or propose a no-confidence motion against the government in the Dewan Rakyat.

These statements have reignited debates over BN's role in the Unity Government and the coalition's future. On Monday, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke urged Anwar to convene the Presidential Council meeting promptly to discuss recent political developments. Loke endorsed this meeting, scheduled as soon as Anwar returned from his official overseas trip, citing several politically sensitive statements made recently, which he deemed detrimental to the nation's political stability.

Today's meeting aimed to offer PH leaders a platform to discuss the latest political developments, including the coalition's relationship with BN. BN remains a crucial part of the Unity Government, making its position a pivotal aspect of these discussions.
