Pengampunan bersyarat Najib bukan keputusan PM atau PH, tegas Wanita PKR

The conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak is not a decision made by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim or the ruling coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH), asserts PKR Women's leader Fadhlina Sidek. In an official statement on Facebook, Fadhlina clarified that the pardon falls under the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as stipulated by the Constitution.

It is vital to acknowledge the facts: the pardon is a power vested in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and the PKR women's leader respects this decision, emphasizing the importance of upholding the institution of the King.

Interestingly, the Public Prosecution Wards Committee (LPWP) had earlier permitted Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, through a conditional pardon. This decision is contingent upon Najib's payment of a RM50 million fine and adherence to the specified conditions. This development has prompted Parti Bersatu Malaysia (PBM) leader Rafizi Ramli to urge Anwar Ibrahim and PH leadership to publicly disclose all the conditions imposed on Najib's house arrest.

Fadhlina acknowledged that the pardon has certainly elicited a range of reactions, from disappointment to anger among certain groups. While she acknowledged that Malaysians have the right to express their feelings and seek explanations, the government remains responsible for providing these clarifications. Najib is currently serving a six-year reduced sentence in connection with the SRC International case, after the Federal Court dismissed his final appeal in August 2022.

Anwar was reportedly quoted as expressing his belief that the pardon does not undermine the principle of the government to continue taking stern action against all cases of corruption and abuse of power.
