No evidence links any govt official, NDC member to cocaine probe – Kwakye Ofosu

Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed allegations that government officials or National Democratic Congress (NDC) members are implicated in ongoing cocaine trafficking investigations at Ghana’s borders. He emphasized that no evidence had been presented to substantiate any involvement of government officials or NDC members in the investigations.

Kwakye Ofosu cautioned against speculation and rumors, urging the public to avoid making unfounded claims while security agencies work to establish facts. He reiterated that no evidence had been presented linking any member of government or NDC to the allegations. Kwakye Ofosu also stated that none of the 10 individuals currently in custody in connection with the investigations were government officials.

He clarified that political affiliation would not shield anyone from legal consequences if they were found guilty of illegal activities. Kwakye Ofosu's remarks came after President John Dramani Mahama met with security chiefs on September 17 regarding significant cocaine seizures linked to Ghana, including an estimated 3.9 tonnes seized by French customs from a container shipped from Ghana.

He stressed that the primary focus remained on holding accountable anyone found involved in illegal narcotics trafficking and preventing further such activities at Ghana’s borders.
