Mumbai's Water Stock Rises To 97.72%, City's 7 Lakes Now Hold 14,14,395 ML Stock

Mumbai's water reserves have reached an impressive 97.72% capacity as of September 18, according to the latest figures from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This represents a slight increase from the previous day's 97.55% stock. The seven reservoirs combined hold a total of 14,14,395 million litres (ML) of water, just shy of their total useful capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

Among the seven lakes, Vehar maintained a full 100% stock, while Tulsi, Tansa, and Bhatsa all reached 99.66%, 99.14%, and 99.27% respectively. Middle Vaitarna stood at 99.16%, Modak Sagar at 90.44%, and Upper Vaitarna at 94.48%.

The lakes received varying amounts of rainfall over the past 24 hours. Vehar collected 20 mm, Upper Vaitarna and Tansa each gathered 11 mm, Tulsi recorded 8 mm, Middle Vaitarna 7 mm, Modak Sagar 5 mm, and Bhatsa 5 mm.

While the current stock is slightly lower than the same period last year - when the reservoirs held 99.02% in 2025 compared to 98.64% in 2024 - it still provides Mumbai with a strong water supply position. The substantial storage accumulated during the monsoon season continues to support the city's water needs.
