Medien: Trump verbietet CNN und „Politico“ Zugang zum Weißen Haus

US President Donald Trump has barred major news outlets CNN and Politico from access to the White House immediately. CNN and Politico were also affected by the ban, as announced on his platform Truth Social. Trump accused them of spreading misinformation, which would exclude their reporters from press conferences and meetings with Trump in the Oval Office.

CNN is one of the world's most recognized news broadcasters, while Politico is part of the German media conglomerate Axel Springer. The extent of the ban and whether journalists are prevented from accompanying government flights on Air Force One remain unclear. This action is not the first time these media houses have faced restrictions.

During his first term in January 2025, the Associated Press (AP) faced difficulty accessing the White House. Trump's war against the media continues in his second term, with him frequently insulting journalists when their questions don't suit him, while praising those who report favorably. The White House has increasingly allied with right-wing influencers among journalists who have access to the White House.

At Trump's press conferences, each time, a different handpicked medium from the White House would be allowed to ask the first question, often turning the topics into scripted questions. Another tool Trump uses is filing lawsuits against media houses, which have included the New York Times, the British BBC, and the US broadcasters CBS and ABC. Critics view Trump's lawsuits as targeted intimidation attempts and an attack on press freedom.
