Major setback for Telangana Congress as High Court disqualifies MLA Danam Nagender

On Friday, the Delhi High Court criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) for their negligence in addressing waterlogging issues in Aerocity. The court has threatened to take stern action if the agencies fail to resolve the problem. A division bench of Justices Prathiba Singh and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora was hearing a petition from a civil rights group, Social Jurist, demanding the construction of a functional storm water drainage system along the National Highway-48 between Mahipalpur and Rangpuri village.

The deteriorating conditions in Aerocity and the national highway should have prompted a more serious response from the agencies, the High Court emphasized. Although a joint stakeholders meeting was held earlier, the court noted that no specific responsibilities had been assigned to any agency. The court warned that if the situation remains unresolved, construction work in Aerocity could be halted.

The High Court directed the Delhi Chief Secretary to hold further meetings and assign clear responsibilities to each agency involved. The court emphasized the need to resolve the waterlogging and traffic congestion issues in Mahipalpur area and stressed that the agencies must take prompt action with a proper proposal. If they fail to do so, the court warned that it will be constrained to issue stringent directions. The court will hear the matter again on October 30.
