Kwadaso NDC supporters demonstrate to demand removal of MCE

A group of supporters from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kwadaso constituency recently took to the streets to demand the removal of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Eric Asibey. The demonstrators, comprising ward coordinators and branch executives, alleged that Asibey had failed to effectively engage with the NDC’s grassroots structures, impeding efforts to create opportunities and improve the welfare of party supporters and constituents.

During a demonstration on September 16, 2026, the protesters presented a petition to the constituency’s party executives, outlining their grievances against Asibey. According to Sofoline branch youth organiser Abdul Aziz Haruna, who spoke to journalists, the NDC grassroots had repeatedly sought to establish contact with Asibey in order to foster opportunities for party members and enhance the well-being of constituents.

However, Haruna claimed that despite these attempts, Asibey’s behavior towards party supporters remained unchanged.

The protesters also expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of birds under the government’s ‘Nkoko Nketekete’ initiative. They alleged that only slightly over 3,000 birds were distributed, while they had anticipated receiving 10,000. Furthermore, they accused Asibey of protecting corruption and related activities at the Sofo line bus terminal enclave, which they claimed had persisted under the leadership of individuals associated with the opposition party.

Additionally, the demonstrators accused Asibey of fraudulently diverting and converting a bus terminal project into the development of a filling station owned by an individual in Ohwimase. When contacted by the Ghana News Agency at his office, Asibey denied all the allegations. He insisted that his primary focus remained on executing the President’s mandate and denied engaging in any manner described by the protesters.
