KoKMA tackles open urination with new Tudu facility

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) recently inaugurated a new sanitation facility at Tudu in Accra, aimed at enhancing access to public sanitation services and reducing instances of open urination in the area. Developed by St. Philips Enterprise, the facility consists of 17 toilet seats and a bathhouse, and is set to alleviate the strain on existing sanitation infrastructure in Tudu and nearby communities.

At the inauguration ceremony, KoKMA's Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector in providing sanitation facilities in areas lacking adequate public infrastructure. He highlighted that insufficient toilet facilities in some regions contributed to the problem of open urination and other sanitation issues.

Allotey-Gaisie noted that the newly constructed facility mirrored the positive impact that private initiatives can have on communities when properly planned and supported, urging for the replication of such projects in other parts of the municipality to improve sanitation and public health. The MCE described the initiative as a precedent that could be followed in other communities to elevate sanitation standards.

Philip Danquah, the CEO of St. Philips Enterprise, expressed his motivation for the project, recalling the poor sanitation situation when he first moved to the area. He stressed that improving sanitation is crucial not only for keeping surroundings clean but also for promoting the well-being of community residents.

Danquah stated that if given the chance, he would build upon the progress made and embark on additional initiatives to further enhance sanitation and other aspects of community development.
