INS Kolkata was on routine deployment, Pakistan vessel conducted in unacceptable manner: MEA

On September 15, a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy warship, INS Kolkata, while both were conducting routine deployments in international waters of the North Arabian Sea. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India stated that the Pakistani Naval Ship Hunain behaved in an "unacceptable and unprofessional manner" during the incident.

The collision occurred due to a dangerous overtaking maneuver by the Pakistani ship, which violated Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres, and Troops Movements. This agreement stipulates that naval units at sea must maintain a distance of at least three nautical miles from one another to prevent accidents.

The Pakistani ship also infringed upon the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. India summoned Pakistan's Charge d’Affaires and lodged a strong protest, while Pakistan responded by summoning the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The MEA spokesperson dismissed Pakistan's allegations as prevarication and reiterating the facts of the incident.
