Indian Railways approves Rs 990-crore projects in Maharashtra to boost train operations

Indian Railways has sanctioned two substantial infrastructure projects in Maharashtra, totalling Rs 990 crore, to enhance train operations. The initiatives encompass doubling a section of the Central Railway and constructing a new railway line.

The first project, valued at Rs 497 crore, involves expanding the Chouk-Karjat railway section by doubling its length from 10.86 km. This expansion will increase capacity and facilitate five extra passenger and freight trains running daily in both directions. Additionally, the project is projected to manage an additional 18.35 million tonnes of freight annually and lessen freight train delays.

The second project, costing Rs 493 crore, entails constructing a 38.21-km new railway line connecting Mukutban in Adilabad to Gadchandur. This line will provide an alternative route, thereby alleviating congestion on the existing Wardha-Manikgarh section. Upon completion, the new line is expected to operate two MEMU trains in each direction daily, adding to the railway network's capacity.

The line is also forecasted to handle around 6.08 million tonnes of freight traffic annually, encompassing coal, cement, iron and steel, fertilisers, and foodgrains.
