Gideon Boako supports 2,200 Tano North BECE graduates with SHS essentials

The Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has distributed GH¢223,000 in bursary support to 223 Junior High School graduates in his constituency. Each recipient received GH¢1,000 under his JHS Leavers Bursary Support Programme, intended to assist with expenses as they transition to senior high schools and technical institutes.

Speaking at a ceremony on September 17, Dr Jasaw explained that cash was chosen over items like mattresses and chop boxes because many senior high schools already had sufficient supplies of these items, and parents and students would be better able to use the funds to address their most critical educational needs.

The beneficiaries, whose academic records ranged from 6 to 35, were selected based on their performance to encourage continued effort and motivate other students to improve. Dr Jasaw urged the scholars to take their studies seriously and maximize this opportunity. However, he expressed concern over the poor performance of candidates in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Wa East District.

Despite noting that this is a national issue, Dr Jasaw called for enhanced monitoring and supervision of schools to improve academic outcomes in his constituency. He urged the District Education Directorate to change strategies and implement measures to reverse declining academic performance. Dr Jasaw also pledged his office's support for circuit supervisors and headteachers through training workshops designed to strengthen supervision, teaching, and learning outcomes.
