‘Ghana Jollof’ case: Former classmates demand release of remanded nursing officer

The Ghana Police Service has announced that its investigation revealed Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as 'Ghana Jollof', paid Salomey Awitti Baffoe and others to spread her false information on social media. This arrest is part of the police's probe into online activities aimed at causing fear, alarm, and violence. During a press briefing on September 18, 2026, CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor stated that the Police had been tracking TikTok account "Ghana Jollof," operated by Kodua, believed to be in the United Kingdom.

Kodua allegedly used the platform to spread inciteful comments and false information, including a video claiming a near coup d'état at the Jubilee House. Baffoe was identified as an accomplice who helped disseminate the videos by recruiting others to redistribute them on various social media platforms. The Police allege that Baffoe and Kodua had a financial arrangement, with Kodua transferring money from the UK to Baffoe in Ghana to support their activities.

Forensic analysis of Baffoe's phone uncovered financial transactions connected to the case. The CID Director-General also mentioned high-profile individuals in society who allegedly funded Baffoe and shared portions of the money with Kodua. The Police have identified that others may have provided financial support to Kodua's online activities.

Baffoe was arrested as part of a joint operation with the National Signals Bureau and the Ghana Police Service, charged with abetment of crime for publishing false news. She was remanded in custody and expected to reappear in court on September 30, 2026. The Police are continuing to investigate and will bring any additional individuals involved in the redistribution of the videos and those suspected of financially supporting the activities before the court. These allegations remain unproven in court.
