Gemini app for macOS adding send and read iMessage integration

Google has launched an update to its Gemini app for macOS, enabling local iMessage integration on the platform. This follows the app's recent arrival on Windows. The Connected App feature in the latest version of Gemini for Mac allows users to "Read, search, and send messages in Apple Messages." This integration aims to enhance context by pulling information from previous conversations. Users can access the integration by heading to the Settings > Connected Apps section after updating Gemini to version 1.116.5.889.

However, the server-side component responsible for this integration is currently missing. As of the latest update, the @messages option is not yet visible in the prompt box. Previously, Google introduced a File Providers extension in Gemini for macOS that enables users to add files directly to the prompt box by right-clicking on a file in Finder. These files can be photos, documents, or any other supported formats. This functionality can be enabled in Settings > Extensions.

In addition to the iMessage integration, Google has added support for Images, Videos, and Daily Brief to the side panel of the Gemini app on macOS. The company shared more details about these updates on their YouTube channel.
