Gemini app for macOS adding send and read iMessage integration

Google has recently updated its Gemini app for macOS, bringing local iMessage integration to the platform. This update follows the app's availability on Windows the previous week. The latest Connected App on Mac is @messages, which allows users to "Read, search, and send messages in Apple Messages." With this integration, users can enhance context by looking up information from conversations. Example prompts include: "What was said about [topic]?" or "Find a link shared in the last conversation."

This integration can be found in the Settings Connected Apps section of Gemini for macOS, located at the very bottom after updating to version 1.116.5.889. However, as of the latest report, a server-side component appears to be missing, as @messages is not yet recognized in the prompt box.

Google's recent updates to Gemini for macOS include a File Providers extension that enables users to "Add to Gemini" when they right-click on a file in Finder. This feature can be enabled in Settings Extensions. Additionally, Google has added Images, Videos, and Daily Brief to the side panel for easier access.
