EFF opens case against Ngizwe Mchunu over alleged shooting

Festival organizer Ngizwe Mchunu stated that a member of his security team discharged an AK-47 assault rifle into the air following a confrontation with members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Inanda, a suburb north of Durban. The incident occurred at the venue where Mchunu planned to hold a music event on Saturday. The EFF had arrived to protest against Mchunu's event, leading to a heated exchange between the two groups.

Mchunu explained that his security guards were monitoring the EFF supporters, unsure whether they were there to celebrate or confront him. When they noticed the EFF members brandishing firearms and firing shots, his guards responded by firing first, causing the crowd to disperse.

The EFF has vowed to proceed with its provincial manifesto launch, scheduled for the same day as Mchunu's event. EFF Provincial Leader Mongezi Twala accused Mchunu of attempting to provoke his party by hosting the event near their rally. Twala vowed that the EFF would continue with its campaign and accused Mchunu of removing party posters and assaulting party members. The EFF is also planning to file a case against Mchunu, his security team, and the police for their conduct during the incident.

Tensions between Mchunu and the EFF have been simmering for some time, with the two having engaged in legal battles. EFF leader Julius Malema has also been embroiled in conflicts with Mchunu. Despite the recent clash, both Mchunu and the EFF leadership remain committed to holding their respective events.
