British woman rescued in Malawi shootout that left four suspected kidnappers dead

A British woman, Nusrat Osman, 47, was rescued in a police operation in Malawi after being kidnapped nearly a week ago. The operation, which took place on the outskirts of Blantyre, resulted in the deaths of four suspected kidnappers and injured a senior police chief. The suspects were armed with an AK-47 rifle and a pistol during the shootout.

Osman, who had been living in Malawi for years, was reunited with her family following her rescue and taken to the hospital for treatment and assessments. Her brother, Shobi Jiwa, praised the Malawian police for her release and called Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kayira a "hero" for risking his life during the operation.

Osman was abducted in Blantyre's Mount Pleasant neighborhood on September 11 while driving home. The family had offered a reward of 30 million Malawian kwacha for her rescue and worked closely with authorities. The UK Foreign Office was informed about the abduction and is in contact with local authorities. The motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
