ASEAN-Korea Centre opens 3rd ASEAN Hall in Jeonju

The ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) inaugurated its Jeonju ASEAN Hall on Thursday at the Korea Traditional Culture Center in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. This marks the addition of a third venue to the AKC's network, following locations in Seoul and Jeju. The new hall is the first space in Korea's southwest region dedicated to ASEAN-Korea cultural exchange.

AKC officials highlighted Jeonju's strategic location between Seoul and Jeju as an ideal setting for the hall to disseminate Southeast Asian culture and arts beyond the capital area. The AKC described the Jeonju ASEAN Hall as a "cultural diplomacy platform" where Korean and ASEAN cultures converge in one of the country's leading cities of traditional culture.

AKC Secretary General Kim Jae-shin emphasized during the opening ceremony that the AKC will consistently present engaging exhibitions and diverse programs to establish the Jeonju ASEAN Hall as a significant venue for cultural exchange between Korea and ASEAN, thereby making ASEAN culture more accessible to the public. Speaking on behalf of the Philippines, which is currently serving as the ASEAN chair for the year, Philippine Ambassador to Korea Bernadette Therese Fernandez stated that the hall will function as a cultural and educational space.
