Anwar: Najib house arrest does not weaken govt’s fight against corruption

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 18 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the conditional pardon allowing former Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest does not undermine the government's commitment to combat corruption and abuse of power. According to Anwar, all corruption cases, including those involving Najib, must proceed according to the law.

As the nation's leader, Anwar's role includes providing legal advice, safeguarding national stability, and adhering to the rule of law, while considering the Attorney General's written opinion. Ultimately, the decision lies with His Majesty the King, and Anwar hopes Malaysians can accept it. He emphasized the need for Malaysia to remain resolute in tackling corruption, with public backing essential to prevent misconduct or abuse of power for personal gain.

Anwar reiterated that the entire country must stand firm and support the law to ensure it is not disregarded when leaders or individuals misuse their position for personal enrichment.
