"New cultural promotion program called 'Napoli Città Mondo' has taken off, developed under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through the Neapolis 2500 National Committee. The committee was established around a year ago to celebrate the founding anniversary of Naples and turn it into an opportunity for internationalization through culture, diplomacy, research, and the business system.
The committee is chaired by Naples' mayor, Michele Di Bari, with Filippo La Rosa (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) and Marilù Faraone Mennella (Entrepreneur) as members. Building on the experience from 2025, a year of celebrations for the 2,500 years since the founding of Naples, the 2026 program aims for a stronger international projection.
The projects increasingly connect the cultural and creative heritage of the city with institutions, businesses, universities, and international operators, leveraging culture as a powerful tool to transform the value of history and identity into relationships, new opportunities, and development. The goal is to build a consistent relationship system over time, connecting institutions, universities, businesses, international organizations, scientific communities, and more.
The strategy includes recent missions to Brazil and Argentina and the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Teatro di San Carlo and Teatro Colón. 'Napoli Oltre Napoli', an editorial project, is part of this strategy, proposing an international narrative of the city through scholars, writers, and personalities from various fields, translated into English and Spanish.
The volume will be featured in missions abroad in the United States, Mercosur countries, and Latin America and presented at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. The same pipeline-inspired approach is behind Kyma – Hub Mediterraneo for the Content Industry, set to take place in Naples on September 23-24.
Kyma will bring together representatives from publishing, cinema, audiovisual, and broadcasting, alongside institutions and businesses, to discuss the changes in cultural and creative industries, from artificial intelligence to coproductions, international content circulation, and more. Following Kyma, the Mediterranean Dialogues initiative will take place at the Palazzo Reale from November 19-21, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Ispi.
Other events include MediNà – Avitabile & Co. in Morocco, a project by Enzo Avitabile and Black Tarantella in Rabat, and Ars Nova Napoli's tour in Australia, featuring festivals and the network of Italian Culture Institutes in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Bellingen.
Napoli Città Mondo will also develop additional products, such as Partenopedia, an English-language podcast and digital platform that will propagate content about the city, with international dissemination through events with Italian Culture Institutes in New York, Istanbul, Paris, and London. Institutional missions and international appointments become concrete opportunities for businesspeople, operators, and stakeholders to meet, involving the diplomatic network, Ambassadors, Italian Culture Institutes, and Chambers of Commerce, as well as ICE.
The objective is to transform international visibility into operational relationships, partnerships, and new development opportunities. This includes the Unesco Heritage Biennale, as an international space for discussion on the protection and valorization of cultural heritage, and the dialogue with the Maeci scientific network, linking diplomacy, research, and innovation.
The relationship between heritage and the production system will be the focus of an exhibition at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, dedicated to art, business, and patronage. Continuity in the relationships built through the program will be ensured by a global fundraising platform, aimed at institutions, businesses, foundations, and partners in Italy, the United States, and South America, not as a simple fundraising effort but as a tool for diplomacy and the construction of stable partnerships.
