On Friday, Volkswagen briefly announced a sharp reduction in its outlook for the current year, causing its stock to drop by seven percent and end the trading session with a five percent decline. This came despite the fact that the company had taken drastic cost-cutting measures, including resistance from the workforce council, to improve efficiency in the group.

These measures were necessary as net profits had fallen by 56 percent over three fiscal years since 2022, and dividends had dropped by 40 percent. The reasons for these declines included overcapacity, high costs, expensive and unpopular car models, and insufficient progress in transitioning to competitive electric vehicles.
