43 suspects arraigned over killing of police officer at Gindabour

The Savannah Regional Police Command has brought 43 individuals before the Buipe Magistrate Court in connection with the murder of General Constable Redeemer Owusu at Gindabour. Charged with murder and abetting the murder of a public officer, the suspects face serious allegations. Additionally, a male suspect apprehended on Thursday night with a locally made pistol and ammunition will stand trial separately before the Damongo Circuit Court, charged with murder and unlawful firearm possession.

The 43 suspects are those involved in the mob attack on September 16 that resulted in General Constable Owusu's death. Police have since confirmed the arrest of 36 suspects related to the incident, assuring the public of their continued support in the investigation. On Friday, a bus carried the suspects to court, where some relatives, especially from Damongo, broke down in tears upon seeing their loved ones.

The events leading to the officer's death began with the fatal encounter of a teacher, Seidu Abu, with police at Gindabour. The teacher, riding a motorbike, was later found dead, sparking outrage among residents who retaliated against police officers, leading to Owusu's demise. Both victims' bodies were transported to the Damongo Morgue for examination.

Inspector-General of Police Patrick Tetteh Yohunu and his team have arrived in Gindabour to meet with local chiefs, hoping to restore order and ensure a thorough investigation.
