2027: How I will crash fuel price with local refinery subsidy – Atiku

In a world press conference held in Abuja, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar announced his plan to reduce fuel pump prices through a local refinery subsidy if elected as the President in the 2027 general elections. This pledge was made during a time when the country's petrol price had skyrocketed to N1,400 per litre. Atiku, who previously served as the Vice President, reignited the fuel subsidy debate just a few weeks prior to making this statement.

Addressing the issue of fuel prices, Atiku stated that from May 29, 2027, he intends to introduce a transparent production subsidy for petroleum products refined in Nigeria and sold to Nigerians. This new policy would ensure that only products confirmed to be refined within the country qualify for the subsidy. Imported products would be excluded from this scheme. The program would come with a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval, and independent audits to maintain transparency and accountability.
