You appointed me, so give me resources to work – rent Commissioner to Mahama

The Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Department, Frederick Opoku, has directly appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to provide the necessary resources for his department to effectively carry out its responsibilities. Mr. Opoku emphasized his appointment came with the duty to serve Ghanaians, but the lack of adequate funding, logistics, and office space is hindering the department's ability to operate.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Opoku urged the President to ensure the institution entrusted with regulating Ghana’s rental sector is properly resourced. He stated, "Mr. President, you appointed me to work, so I should be resourced to work. I cannot do this job effectively without the necessary resources." Since initiating the crackdown on unlicensed hostels, Opoku has not received the required logistical support to continue the task.

He emphasized the need for resources, gadgets, and logistics to perform the job properly. The department currently operates without adequate office facilities, a situation Opoku finds unacceptable and calls for immediate attention. He stressed that the Rent Control Department needs sustained government investment to effectively regulate the rental sector and protect both tenants and landlords' interests.
