US-Iran war permanently damaged Amazon's AWS infrastructure in the Middle East

In the Middle East, Amazon's AWS infrastructure has suffered significant damage due to Iran's threats, according to the tech giant. Amazon confirmed that Iranian attacks have rendered some of its facilities completely inoperable, with the Bahrain AWS Region (me-south-1) being particularly hard-hit. The me-south-1 Region's damage exceeded Amazon's capacity to recover, leading the company to declare that it is unable to restore access to resources and data hosted exclusively in this region.

Customers are advised to migrate their cloud operations to other Regions, preferably those outside Iran's reach. Additionally, Amazon reported operational issues in the UAE AWS Region (me-central-1), where the data center resources in mec1-az2 were destroyed, while mec1-az1 and mec1-az3 are still being recovered. The disruption in the UAE began in March, prompting many customers to relocate their cloud products and restore backups.

Amazon is working on restoring or rebuilding the damaged infrastructure in the UAE, with potential positive updates in the coming months. After Iran threatened to target US tech corporations in the Middle East, cloud providers like Amazon warned customers to prepare for potential data loss and business disruption, urging them to have disaster recovery plans in place.
