UN investigators find 'reasonable grounds' US committed war crimes in Iran

The United Nations has found "reasonable grounds" to believe that the United States committed war crimes during its strikes on a primary school and a sports complex in Iran, according to a UN fact-finding mission. The school attack, which killed at least 150 people including approximately 120 children, was carried out with a Tomahawk missile and was not due to an errant missile, the UN investigators concluded.

The UN report stated that the strike was deliberate and aimed at the school, located approximately 72 meters away from the nearest Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facility. The UN investigators also found that another US strike hit a "clearly identifiable sports complex and residential area" in the southern Iranian city of Lamerd, using a previously untested ballistic missile.

The UN fact-finders concluded that the US attack was "indiscriminate" and violated the principle of distinction in international humanitarian law due to the use of the Precision Strike Missile, which detonates just above its target and launches thousands of tungsten pellets, posing a high risk of civilian casualties.
