Ukrainian serviceman injured in explosion near recruitment center in Lviv Oblast

An explosion occurred near the entrance to a military recruitment center in Mykolaiv, Lviv Oblast, on September 17, injuring one serviceman, according to the Lviv Oblast Military Recruitment and Social Support Center. The blast was believed to have been caused by an unidentified device thrown from the street. The injured serviceman, employed at the Stryi district recruitment center, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Law enforcement and an investigative team are currently on the scene, determining the details surrounding the incident. The situation comes as Ukraine continues to struggle with a shortage of military personnel and recruitment challenges. President Kyrylo Budanov had previously stated that Ukraine needs to mobilize at least 30,000 individuals per month, while a parliamentary defense committee official had earlier mentioned changes to the mobilization system due to recruitment difficulties.

Martial law has been in effect in Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022. As the draft system expanded in scope over recent years, tensions over mobilization have grown within Ukrainian society. Reports of attacks on draft officers have been on the rise in 2026.
