Don’t mistake Nigerians’ patience for acceptance of hardship — Northern Elders to Tinubu

The Northern States Christian Elders Forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against mistaking Nigerians' endurance for their agreement with hardship. In a statement released by its chairman, Elder Sunday Oibe, the forum urged Tinubu to halt the recent hike in petrol prices. The forum explained that further petrol price increases would exacerbate an already deteriorating situation and heighten uncertainty for millions of Nigerians.

The forum charged the President to utilize the remainder of his term to address the pressing concerns of citizens, such as the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, and the deterioration of crucial infrastructure. They emphasized that the patience of Nigerians should not be interpreted as endorsement of prolonged suffering.

Furthermore, the elders urged the government to explore alternative and sustainable revenue sources for funding its programs and obligations, rather than repeatedly imposing burdens on the populace through repeated fuel price hikes.
