Tinubu sets ‘vision’ 2030 to end child labour

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set a vision for 2030 to eliminate child labour, describing it as a national development priority. In Abuja, he unveiled the 2024 National Child Labour Survey Report and launched a National Action Plan for the period 2026-2030. The Federal Government will intensify efforts to address the conditions that force children into exploitative labor, emphasizing that such children miss out on education, opportunities, health, and the ability to contribute to national development.

Tinubu highlighted education as a critical safeguard against child labor, stating that his administration is pursuing reforms to tackle the issue of out-of-school children, improve education data, develop teachers, and facilitate skills acquisition. Additionally, he announced the support for school attendance and a reduction in hunger among vulnerable children through the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

Social protection initiatives, such as the NG-CARES Additional Financing Programme and the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity Programme, are being implemented to enhance household resilience and assist parents in securing decent livelihoods. Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, noted that Nigeria's expanding digital identity system is bolstering access to the digital economy, describing the National Identity Management Commission as a significant achievement of the Tinubu administration.
