IT worker, 51, allegedly kills wife with knife after financial disputes

A 51-year-old IT worker is suspected of murdering his 53-year-old wife in their Hong Kong apartment after financial disagreements, according to preliminary police investigations. Superintendent Kwan Chun-ting, assistant district commander of Eastern district crime squad, said the man turned himself in at Kowloon City Police Station the day after the incident and confessed to the killing.

Police found the victim's body, with knife wounds on her neck, torso and hands, in the master bedroom of their Heng Fa Chuen flat. The suspect and victim reportedly had a dispute inside their home, with the suspect allegedly attacking her with a kitchen knife. The couple's two sons, aged 22 and 15, lived with them in the flat, though their presence was not mentioned when recounting the incident.

Preliminary findings indicated the suspect had a record of risky investments and debts exceeding HK$1 million, which caused disputes with his wife. The superintendent noted their relationship was reportedly poor. The IT professional with a stable income had been married to his wife, a homemaker, for an undisclosed period.

Police stated that the family had no prior record of disputes or domestic violence. The case remains under investigation and the suspect is still in custody as of Thursday morning.
