South African police find a ninth woman’s body, with possible links to series of killings

Owen Ndlovu, a prominent South African sports broadcaster, was discovered dead on Wednesday following his abduction earlier in the week. The former public broadcaster for the SABC was seized on Tuesday while retrieving his wife from a church in Katlehong, according to police. His body, bearing gunshot wounds, was found by residents the following morning.

Police have launched a search for three suspects and are investigating the incident, which has highlighted South Africa's ongoing issues with violent crime. Ndlovu was picked up by three unknown individuals, one of whom allegedly had a gun, after his wife exited the vehicle. The suspects then fled with the victim. The Ford Raptor pickup truck, commonly referred to as a bakkie, was later discovered abandoned in Walkerville, a Johannesburg suburb.

The body was found by locals beside a road in Thokoza, adjacent to Katlehong. The family expressed their devastation and gratitude to those who assisted in the search efforts. Ndlovu, who was 54, was well-known for his work at the SABC, where he was a sports presenter and producer. He also covered radio broadcasts of the Premier Soccer League and advocated for musicians' rights.

Fellow journalist Lelo Mzaca remembered Ndlovu as a vibrant and enthusiastic individual who brought energy to sports broadcasting, stating that South Africa had lost a unique and spirited person. The provincial government called on communities to assist the police in their investigation, emphasizing that addressing crime remains a top priority.
