Saudi Arabia urges strict adherence to international law at UN Security Council

NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia has emphasized the importance of upholding international law and the UN Charter in maintaining peace and security globally, particularly in protecting civilians during armed conflicts. Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made these remarks during a Security Council meeting on Wednesday.

Alwasil stressed the necessity of safeguarding civilians, civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian personnel, as well as respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of nations. He cautioned against interfering in the internal affairs of states.

The Saudi envoy highlighted the importance of applying international law without discrimination or favoritism, and strengthening accountability for violations to reinforce adherence to international rules and principles. He also advocated for prioritizing dialogue and peaceful methods, supporting mediation efforts to resolve conflicts, and minimizing their humanitarian and security consequences.

Alwasil reaffirmed the Kingdom's dedication to promoting respect for international humanitarian law and protecting civilians, as well as supporting international efforts to achieve security, stability, and conflict resolution through peaceful means.
