Roku adding new apps & subscription bundles, homescreen redesign expanding

Roku is introducing several enhancements to its platform, including the expansion of its homescreen redesign, new "Labs" features, and the capability to bundle streaming service subscriptions for potential cost savings. "Roku Labs" allows users to trial experimental apps on their televisions. This includes a newly announced game called "Roku City Dash," as well as first-party Roku apps for Stocks, Weather, and a customizable "Backdrops Studio" featuring customizable screensaver artwork.

In addition to the Labs, Roku is gradually rolling out its redesigned homescreen. Initially launched in the US in May, the updated interface is now expanding to Brazil and Mexico with some regional adjustments. Roku's operating system, Roku OS, is also receiving improvements, including more efficient search capabilities with smarter, personalized content recommendations.

Users can now employ voice commands to perform tasks beyond content, such as displaying weather previews. Roku is also opening up its LT OS, the operating system for its remote, to open-source development. Perhaps the most significant addition, however, is the ability to purchase streaming service subscription bundles. These bundles offer over 30 combinations using services such as AMC+, Fox One, Starz, and more, potentially saving users up to 30% compared to subscribing individually.

Your preferred subscriptions are now conveniently bundled within Premium Subscriptions in the US and Mexico. These bundles are discoverable across the Roku platform, including the Subscriptions Destination, Streaming Store, Premium Subscriptions Home, and more. Users also retain the flexibility to modify their subscriptions at any time, either through their Roku device or online. Subscription bundles are currently available in the US and Mexico.
