Robotic surgery cuts pain, shortens hospital stay — Surgeons

Surgeons at Redeemer's Health Village in Ogun State have reported that robotic surgery improves patient outcomes by reducing pain and shortening hospital stays. This is due to the use of smaller incisions that cause less tissue damage, enabling surgeons to operate with greater precision and visualisation. The hospital successfully conducted its first robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery on a middle-aged man, performed by urology experts and robotic surgeons from RoboMed Global Inc., a US-based company.

The CEO of Redeemer's Health Village, Dr. Ademola Dada, emphasized that the hospital aims to provide affordable robotic surgeries for conditions like prostate cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, and colonic cancer, making the services available to all Nigerians regardless of their location or social status. Robotic surgery's smaller incisions result in less pain, reduced wound infection risk, and faster recovery, with patients often discharged the same or next day.
