Rashmika Mandanna to play MS Subbulakshmi, Anirudh Ravichander scores music

Dubai: Actress Rashmika Mandanna was confirmed to portray the esteemed Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic, unveiled at a ceremony in Chennai to celebrate the singer's 110th birth anniversary. The film, titled MS: A Legacy On Screen, was introduced by Kamal Haasan, who served as the chief guest and initiated the production with his first clap for Rashmika's opening scene as Subbulakshmi.

The biopic, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and composed by Anirudh Ravichander, is jointly produced by Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works. Earlier, actresses Sai Pallavi and Rukmini Vasanth were also under consideration for the role. Rashmika expressed her gratitude and humility in accepting the role, stating it was both an honor and a significant responsibility to portray one of India's most revered cultural icons.

MS Subbulakshmi, born on September 16, 1916, in Madurai, became India's most celebrated Carnatic singer, receiving the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, and the Ramon Magsaysay Award. She performed at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966 and passed away in 2004 at the age of 88. Rashmika Mandanna is currently involved in several major projects, including Cocktail 2, Ranabaali featuring Vijay Deverakonda, and the action film Mysaa.
