Jean-Michel Jarre Expands Partnership With BMG

French electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre has broadened his partnership with BMG, now encompassing his recorded music catalog and forthcoming works. Through this exclusive licensing agreement, BMG will represent Jarre's catalog on a global scale. The deal complements BMG's existing relationship, which includes the recordings of his first three albums.

In 2022, BMG acquired Jarre's music publishing catalog, including iconic works Oxygene and Équinoxe, along with his writer's income, marking BMG's largest single deal in France. Previously, BMG obtained the sound recordings of Jarre's initial three LPs when it purchased Francis Dreyfus Music in 2012.

Acknowledging their long-standing relationship, Jarre expressed his enthusiasm for the enhanced collaboration. "My relationship with BMG goes back many years, and I am very happy that today we are bringing our work even closer together," he stated. "As the only major international music company with European roots, BMG has a cultural identity that is deeply important to me.

Born in Lyon, France, Jarre has already released 22 albums, positioning him among the most influential electronic music artists. His debut album, Oxygene (1976), remains a timeless classic and a cornerstone for electronic music enthusiasts. Other notable works include Equinoxe, Magnetic Fields, and Zoolook. In 1981, Jarre made history as the first Western musician to perform in China, with memorable performances documented in The Concerts In China.

With over 85 million album sales, he was honored with the Commander of the Légion d'Honneur in 2021, France's highest distinction.

BMG CEO Alistair Norbury emphasized the expanded partnership's potential. As Jarre prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Oxygene, he demonstrates no signs of slowing down. Following a European summer concert tour, including a performance at Amnesia Ibiza for the club's 50th anniversary, Jarre will serve as the special guest of honor at the 30th edition of Amsterdam Dance Event in October. He will also unveil the coffee-table book "Machines by Jean-Michel Jarre: A History of Electronic Music," which traces the evolution of electronic music and its cultural impact.
